Anesthesiologist Assistants

Anesthesiologist Assistants (AAs) are allied health professionals who are recognized members of the Anesthesia Care Team. AAs are highly trained anesthetists who work cooperatively under the direction of an anesthesiologist to implement the anesthesia care plan. AAs are trained in a professional graduate level program and earn a Master of Science in Anesthesiology (MSA) degree. There was a recognized need to create a new type of anesthetist who would complement the anesthesia care team with unique contribution in such areas as equipment, instrumentation and monitoring, and acute care physiology and pharmacology.
