NEW! CE Broker Information for Providers and Licensees - Licensees may subscribe now and receive the personal benefits of continuing education tracking through February 28, 2007. The renewal of your license will be affected by continuing education tracking through the CE Broker system beginning with the March 1, 2005 through February 28, 2007 licensure cycle.

64B6-5.001(1), F.A.C. - As a condition of the biennial renewal of an active license, each hearing aid specialist must attend a total of 20 credit hours per biennium of board approved continuing education. The following must be included within the required 20 hours:

1) 2 hours HIV/AIDS and other communicable illness (may take up to 4 hours)
2) 2 hours relating to hearing aid laws and rules
3) 2 hour course on preventing medical errors

Two hours of continuing education per year may be granted for attendance at a regularly scheduled board meeting.

No person initially licensed in the biennium prior to renewal shall be required to attend continuing education programs as a condition of renewing the initial license.

Do not send CE information to the board office. Licensees are required to retain continuing education documentation for four years. Audits will be conducted at random to insure compliance with continuing education requirements.

Continuing Education Providers

This profession does not approve continuing education providers, they do approve continuing education programs or courses. Programs approved by the International Institute of Hearing Instrument Studies shall automatically be approved for credit.

Providers of individual programs may request approval upon showing that they are relevant to and enhance the licensee's ability to dispense hearing aids. Such request shall specifically state whether program attendance will be restricted in any way. These individual program requests should be submitted electronically to the Department of Health at: CE Broker.
