Licensure Requirements
The department shall
license each applicant who the board certifies:

Has completed the
application form and remitted the required fees

Submits three
letters of good moral character

Is 18 years of age
-
Is a graduate of
an accredited high school or its equivalent

Submits two
photographs
-
Meets either (1)
or (2) below:
(1) Has met the requirements of the training program; or
(2) (a) Has a valid, current license as a hearing aid specialist or
its equivalent from another state and has been actively practicing
in such capacity for at least 12 months; or (b) Is currently
certified by the National Board for Certification in Hearing
Instrument Sciences and has been actively practicing for at least 12
months.

Has passed the licensure examination, which is the International Licensing Examination
(ILE) for the Hearing Instrument Dispenser.

Has submitted a notarized laws and rules affidavit

Has submitted proof of taking a two hour course on the prevention of medical errors
If licensed in another state, territory, or jurisdiction of the
United States, must have license verification form sent directly to the
board office from that office that issued the license or certification.
If an applicant fails to complete the application within 12 months of
its receipt in the Board office, he shall be required to apply as an
initial applicant.
Requirements to register in the Hearing Aid
Specialist Training Program:
The training program is a minimum of six months in length and a
trainee must obtain and complete the National Hearing Aid Home Study
Course. Upon completion of
the training program, a trainee shall take the first available licensure
examination offered by the department.
Requirements to qualify as the sponsor of a
trainee:
- Has an active Florida hearing aid specialist license with an established place of business
- Must have possessed the active Florida license for at least two consecutive years immediately prior to sponsorship
- Must have been actively practicing the dispensing of hearing aids for at least two consecutive years immediately prior to sponsorship
- Must be Board certified by the National Board for Certification in Hearing Instrument Sciences
- Must not have been disciplined during the past four years and
- May not sponsor more than three trainees at any one time
