There are no application deadlines
for the State of Florida licensure. The only deadlines are the exam
deadlines which are set by NATA, the national organization.
The applications and materials are available for you to download directly to
your computer. The files are in a PDF file format, which will require Adobe PDF Reader to download.
Requirements -
Anyperson may be considered for licensure as an Athletic Trainer provided the applicant provides satisfactory evidence of completion of the requirements listed below:
Educational Background, Supervised Athletic Training Experience and Examination - Pursuant to Section 468.707(1)(a), Florida Statutes (F.S.), an applicant must:
- Be at least 21 years of age;
- Have obtained a baccalaureate degree from a college or university accredited by an accrediting agency recognized and approved by the U.S. Department of Education or the Commission on Recognition of Postsecondary Accreditation, or approved by the board.
- Has completed an approved athletic training curriculum from a college or university accredited by an accrediting agency recognized and approved by the U.S. Department of Education or the Commission on Recognition of Postsecondary Accreditation, or approved by the board.
- Has a current certification in cardiovascular pulmonary resuscitation from the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, or an equivalent certification as determined by the board.
- Have certification as an athletic trainer certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification.
- Has passed an examination administered or approved by the board.
- Has submitted proof of taking a two-hour course on the prevention of medical errors.
- If licensed in another state, territory, or jurisdiction of the United States, must have license verification form sent directly to the board office from that office that issued the license or certification.
*** Pursuant to Section 456.034, F.S., each applicant shall complete a continuing education course on HIV/AIDS as part of initial licensure. The department approves basic AIDS educational courses presented by the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services; courses approved by any board within the Agency for Health Care Administration; and the American Red Cross. Please submit a CERTIFIED copy of the certificate of attendance with your application.
