The Board of Dentistry is made up of 11 members-- Seven members of the board must be licensed dentists actively engaged in the practice of dentistry in this state. Two members must be licensed dental hygienists actively engaged in the practice of dental hygiene in this state. The remaining two members must be lay persons who are not, and have never been, dentists, dental hygienists, or members of any closely related profession or occupation. At least one member of the board must be 60 years of age or older.

Since this Board serves as a "quasi judicial" entity on licensure issues, contact with the members may cause the member to be recused from administrative proceedings. Staff will direct inquiries, when appropriate, to the full board for review.

Staff and Responsibilities

Sue Foster, Executive Director - Administrative officer for the Board of Dentistry. Responsible for the total output of each phase of responsibility - from application of a dentist/dental hygienist, to licensure, to consumer complaints, to discipline, and up to the revocation of a dentist/dental hygienist license.

Cynthia Ritter, Program Administrator - Attends board and committee meetings, prepares agendas and minutes, processes final orders, supervises board staff. Corresponds with the public, licensees and applicants, both telephonically and in writing.

Sarah Walls, Administrative Assistant - Responsible for agenda preparation, administrative duties involving anesthesia inspections and consultant contracts, adverse occurrence reports, residency permits, teaching permits, non-profit corporation permits, limited license applications. Corresponds with the public, licensees and applicants, both telephonically and in writing.

Linda McQuaig, Regulation Specialist - Responsible for the application and licensure process for dental applicants. This includes the collection and inspection of all credentials, knowledge of laws and rules pertaining to the application and licensure process in Florida. Corresponds with the public, licensees and applicants, both telephonically and in writing.

Susan Angel, Regulatory Specialist - Responsible for application and registration/licensing/permitting of the following: dental laboratories, continuing education providers, dental radiographers, anesthesia permits, maintains list of board approved biennial providers of continuing education, process reactivation requests. Corresponds with the public, licensees and applicants, both telephonically and in writing.

John Milton, - Regulatory Specialist - Responsible for the application and licensure process for dental hygiene applicants. This includes the collection and inspection of all credentials, knowledge of laws and rules pertaining to the application and licensure process in Florida. Corresponds with the public, licensees and applicants, both telephonically and in writing.
