A Public Psychiatry Certificate authorizes the holder to practice only in conjunction with employment duties within a public mental health facility or program funded in part or entirely by state funds and automatically expires when the holder’s relationship with the facility or program is terminated.

Applicants applying for a Public Psychiatry Certificate must:

  • Be a board certified psychiatrist who is licensed to practice medicine without restrictions in another state

  • Submit a letter from the Secretary of the Department of Health requesting a certificate be issued

  • Submit a letter from the Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at one of the public medical schools or the Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at the accredited medical school at the University of Miami

  • A letter of intention of employment by a public mental health facility or program funded in part or entirely by state funds.

  • Submit a Specialty Board Certificate in Psychiatry

  • Meet the requirements in section 458.311(1)(a)-(g) and (5) Florida Statutes
