The renewal of your license will be affected by continuing education tracking through the CE Broker system beginning with the January 1, 2005 through December 31, 2006 licensure cycle.

How to Become a Continuing Education Provider

Continuing Education

Regular Licensed Opticians:

64B12-15.003(3), F.A.C. - 20 credit hours of approved continuing education is required per biennium.

  • 11 of the hours must be directly related to technical practice opticianry. (Board certified opticians must dedicate 4 of these hours to contact lens theory and practice.)
  • 2 must include Laws & Rules.
  • 2 hours in the prevention of medical errors
  • 5 hours of electives from the first 3 areas or subjects relating to business management

A maximum of 5 hours of CE may be from courses without classroom instruction.

Board Certified Opticians

64B12-15.003(3), F.A.C. - 20 credit hours of approved continuing education is required per biennium.

  • 7 of the hours must be directly related to technical practice of opticianry
  • 4 of the hours must be technical courses related to contact lens theory & practice
  • 2 must include laws and rules
  • 2 hours in the prevention of medical errors
  • 5 hours of electives from the first 4 areas or subjects relating to business management

A maximum of 5 hours of CE may be from courses without classroom instruction.



Initially Licensed Opticians (for first renewal only)

64B12-15.001(2) - Licensed in First Year of Biennium: 10 Credits

  • 1 hour of HIV/AIDS education

Opticians initially licensed in the first year of biennium are required to complete 10 hours of CE for their first licensure renewal, with a maximum of 2.5 hours from courses without classroom instruction.

Opticians initially licensed in the second year of biennium are not required to complete CE requirements for the first licensure renewal. (License must expire same year it was issued.)

All credit hours must be earned within the biennium for which they are claimed.

Do not send CE information to the Board office. Licensees are required to retain continuing education documentation for four years. Audits will be conducted at random to insure compliance with continuing education requirements.

How To Become a Continuing Education Provider

All provider applications and renewals must be submitted electronically to the Department of Health at www.cebroker.com. Attachments to the application, which cannot be sent electronically, may be submitted by mail after the application is submitted electronically. For additional information see the list of answers to frequently asked questions about the statutorily mandated CE Tracking System.
