Continuing Education - Florida Board of Osteopathic Medicine

Effective 7/1/2006 the continuing education (CE) requirements for licensure renewal in Florida has changed. The Board of Osteopathic Medicine has updated it’s CE requirements to maintain the current educational needs of physicians licensed in this state. These changes include:

Change the HIV/AIDS continuing education course to be required only for the first renewal. No HIV/AIDS course required after that.
Change the Domestic Violence requirement to a two hour continuing education course and it is only required once ever third biennium.

All CMEs must be either American Osteopathic Association (AOA) (http://www.aoa-net.org) approved category I or American Medical Association (AMA) (http://www.ama-assn.org) approved courses. Please contact the AOA or AMA for approved CME Providers.

Up to 10 hours, per biennium, of CME credit may be fulfilled by performance of pre-approved pro bono medical services.For those still in training, six months of training can substitute for 10 hours of the general hour requirement.

**Continuing education with regard to Risk Management, Florida Laws & Rules, Controlled Substances, and the Prevention of Medical Errors must be obtained by completion of live, participatory attendance course.

***Two (2) hours of Domestic Violence is required once every third biennium.

* Sixteen (16) hours is required if you have already taken the 2 hours of Domestic Violence.

All credit hours must be earned within the biennium for which they are claimed.
