The Board of Respiratory Care is responsible for licensing and regulating
registered or certified respiratory therapists who meet statutory
requirements for safe practice in Florida.
Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)
- Posses a high school diploma or a graduate equivalency diploma
- Have successfully completed a training program for respiratory therapists
approved by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation of
the American Medical Association, or the equivalent thereof, as accepted by
the board.
- Is currently a "Certified Respiratory Therapist" certified by the
National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC), or the equivalent thereof, as
accepted by the board.
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
- Posses a high school diploma or a graduate equivalency diploma
- Have successfully completed a training program for respiratory therapists
approved by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation of
the American Medical Association, or the equivalent thereof, as accepted by
the board.
- Is currently a "Registered Respiratory Therapist" registered by the
National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC), or the equivalent thereof, as
accepted by the board.

application, the fees and other required documentation. For copies of the
laws and rules, link on each to download or review them.
- Submit a completed application, all fees and a current photograph to the
board office.
- Contact each state(s) that you have/had licensure for a licensure
verification to be sent directly to the board office.
- Proof of certification or registration with the NBRC is required. An official letter of verification directly from the NBRC. As of October 2006, a copy of the NBRC test scores, wall credential or wallet card are NOT acceptable proof of your credentials.
